What you should know about HIV and AIDS
HIV is the virus that causes AIDS.
HIV can be transmitted in the following ways:
1.Unprotected vaginal,anal,or oral sex
2.Sharing needles or syringes (blood to blood contact)
3.From a mother to child during pregnancy, delivery, or while breastfeeding

ANYONE can get HIV.

HIV is not spread by casual contact such as kissing, hugging, touching, shaking hands, coughing, or sharing eating utensils.

You can't tell if someone has HIV by looking at them. Most people don't show symptoms. Always protect yourself!

The best way to protect yourself from getting HIV from sex is abstinence (not having sex). If you decide to have sex, have SAFER SEX! Make sure to use a condom or a dental dam.

Avoid sharing needles or syringes. If you share, clean them!

The only way to know for sure if you are infected with HIV is to get tested (see index of “HIV Counseling and Testing” sites)
